Things to remember/disclaimers:
  1. All data came from RoadtoNationals.com
  2. I cleaned each team but make no guarantees.  In general, I probably caught many of the typos/name changes (e.g. gymnasts who were listed under a nickname some years, gymnasts who got married and changed their last names, etc.).  Realistically, doing this by hand, I missed some, but the errors should be even across teams.
  3. RTN's data is quite good/complete beginning about 1998, thus the 1998 right censoring.  However, this means a gymnast who competed four years and was a senior in 1998 will only be counted as having competed one year.  Likewise, current gymnasts are only counted as having competed one, two, or three years.  Both of these caveats inflate the number of gymnasts listed as competing 1-3 years, but again, this should be represented consistently across all teams.
  4. In light of 2 and 3, with around 20 years of rosters for most teams, the errors will tend to even out over time.
  5. Any gymnast competing at least one routine in a given season for a given team is considered as competing during that season for that team.  Those who competed during five seasons, through meeting the requirements to redshirt and being granted a fifth season, are included in as having competed four seasons.  Transfers contribute the number of seasons competed at each school to that school (e.g. Catie Conrad is listed as 3 years for EMU and 1 year for Pitt).
  6. There are many reasons a gymnast may compete a given number of years-- good, bad, and neutral.
  7. For unknown reasons, some seasons' scores are missing from RTN for certain teams.  Although this is understandable (seriously, love RTN and all the information they provide) and rare, it prompted me to include number of seasons included in parentheses next to the total number of gymnasts at the bottom of the bars.
  8. I have a "Top 25 in order of 2018 regular season final placement" plot that will not post, despite several attempts, for some reason.  I'll post it to twitter: @ncaagymstats
  9. I decided to include the schools that no longer have programs.  I hate to see the list but enjoyed seeing familiar names on the rosters and hoping that maybe someday some of them will be reinstated or more new programs will start
  10. I'm sure there are other points I thought of while making these, so chances are good I'll need to update this in some way...🙂
